Wahab Riaz Out of ICC Champions Trophy 2017


Wahab Riaz out of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 because of an ankle injury he got during the match against India. Wahab Riaz will no longer be a part of the Pakistan team in the ICC Champions Trophy.



Riaz was already sustaining an injury in his knee during the game. Initially, Junaid Khan was to play in place of Wahab Riaz but Riaz still had been selected by the team coach Micky Arthur despite the injury. During the game, he collapsed and was sent to the hospital for medical assistance. This is the story of Wahab Riaz out of ICC Champions Trophy 2017.

Pakistan was utterly devastated by its players due to poor fielding and dropping essential catches by that made Pakistan suffer the entire 50 overs. India made 319/3 off 50 overs. The target was later revised to 289 off 41 overs due to rain. Pakistan nonetheless failed to achieve the target and the whole team was bowled out for just 164 runs. The defending champions achieved the second position in the group rankings defeating their rivals by 124 runs. Pakistan has dropped to the bottom of the group rankings.

Micky Arthur commented on Pakistan’s performance;

“The worrying thing for me, and it has been for a period of time, is we just do the basics wrong”

Substitute for Wahab Riaz

According to unconfirmed sources, Rumman Raees is said to replace the player, Wahab Riaz. Rumman Raees made his debut in 2016 against West Indies at Abu Dhabi. His other performances include playing for Islamabad United in PSL. Mohammad Abbas is also among the options to replace the injured pacer.

Wahab’s performance wasn’t up to the mark against India. He failed to achieve even a single wicket and gave 87 runs off 8.4 overs. The maximum of runs any other bowler conceived. Wahab was rushed to hospital after he collapsed on the pitch right after delivering a ball to the Indian batsman. He was taken to hospital on suspicion of a foot injury. The doctors have recommended at least 7-days rest before joining the squad again. Until then Wahab Riaz out of ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
