PCB appoints T20 and ODI captain Sarfraz Ahmed as the new captain of “Test Cricket”.
The announcement came on Tuesday when Shaharyar Khan confirmed Sarfraz Ahmed as the captain of Test cricket. In his previous press releases, he had hinted at appointing Sarfraz Ahmed as the new test captain of Pakistan cricket team quoting:
“I have already consulted a lot of people on this matter and I am planning to consult a few more but, truth be told, Sarfraz has delivered very well as the captain of the ODI and T20I side.”
This tremendous responsibility was offered to Sarfraz Ahmed at Prime Minister’s reception at his house where the entire squad was invited to celebrate the glorious victory of men in green over the Indians in Champions Trophy Finals. This was Pakistan’s first Champions Trophy win against the Indians. Sarfraz Ahmad; being the captain of ODI and T20 led Pakistan to a surprising yet tremendous victory for which he was offered the captaincy of Test cricket which he gladly accepted. In last 3 years, this is the first time PCB has appointed a single captain for the ODI, T20 and Test cricket. Shaharyar Khan’s this decision was a long awaited ever since Misbah Ul Haq retired from international cricket.
Sarfraz Ahmed’s Captaincy
Sarfraz Ahmed is now serving as the captain of all 3 international cricket formats. He received ODI captainship this year when Azhar Ali gave resignation in February. He had taken over as captain of T20 in 2016 when Shahid Afridi resigned from captainship. Nonetheless, Sarfraz Ahmed is a skillful and strategic captain who demonstrated his skills in the Champions Trophy 2017. Despite a 124 runs loss against India in it’s the first match, Pakistan made an astonishing comeback and embarrassed Indians in the Finals by an 180 run win.
