The Pakistan football federation PFF is possibly expected to be suspended by world governing body of football that is FIFA. According to FIFA, the Pakistan football federation PFF is not fulfilling the obligations of FIFA under Articles 14 and 19 of the FIFA Statutes.
Although football is not a very popular and successful game in Pakistan; yet PFF has been trying its level best to bring it to an international level. Pakistan has a disconcerting 200th position in the world football rankings. Moreover, to add fuel to the fire, FIFA has been planning on suspending the country’s football federation as well. While speaking exclusively to a Pakistani magazine, the FIFA spokesperson said:
“The situation of the PFF was discussed by the FIFA Member Associations Committee during its meeting on July 4. It was discussed that the potential extension of the deadline (from 30 September 2017 to 30 June 2019) to revise the PFF statutes and organize elections will be conditional on the strict implementation of an action plan and a regular reporting mechanism.”
PFF Facing Controversy
Pakistan football federation has been facing a controversial status since the past three years. It happened because Hayat, who has been a president of PFF since 2015, has been found guilty of embezzling funds and holding unfair elections of the Punjab Football Association. After that, Lahore high court appointed the retired judge Justice Asad Munir to run the affairs of PFF. Nevertheless, the FIFA committee decided to give a two-year extension to Hayat in September 2015 after a three-member FIFA mission visited Pakistan to look into the matter. Soon after that Hayat and his companions stood away from the matters of FIFA because they said that the interruption of government is making things difficult. But now FIFA has stepped in to look into the matters of football of Pakistan.
