Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy is a Pakistani journalist and director who born in 1978 at Karachi, Pakistan. Sharmeen started her writing career when she was only 14 years old. She was always keen to write about the marginalized communities.
Sharmeen worked for many news companies before she started her own film company SOC Films in 2011.
Sharmeen has made a lot of films in various countries. She is the first non-American to get Livingston Award on excellent international reporting. She was included in 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine in 2012. She won an Emmy for her documentary, Children of the Taliban in 2010. Sharmeen is the only Pakistani who won Oscar Award for her excellence.
