Nimra Buchcha is one of the newcomers in to the Pakistani drama industry. Born in Karachi, Nimra went to the USA for further studies. However, she studied drama just for a brief period of time at the Bard College in USA. Nimra already has ties with the drama industry, as she is the wife of famous author Mohammed Hanif. Nimra has seen a rapid rise in to the industry, as her performances in dramas and theater have been quickly recognized and given her an equal standing beside her husband. Her family did not want her to delve in to acting, while she 'hopelessly' wanted to become an actress. Hence, she took up journalism for a brief period of time. Then, around five years ago, she decided to finally take up acting. She performed in a theater adaptation of Salman Rushdie's famous Midnight Children, which was one of her first breaks in the acting industry. She also performed in a play in 2006 at the world famous Traverse Theater in Edinburgh.
However, she received massive critical acclaim for her acting in the lead role of The Dictator's Wife. She received success at the Hampstead Theater in London as well as the SOAS, after which the play was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2008. After that, she moved back to Karachi to work in the Pakistani drama industry. Currently, she is working with Mehreen Jabbar in her latest project, and has plans to do 13 big productions in the next ten years. Her performance in drama serial Daam was very well received on ARY and became very popular.
