Anyone who has been in touch with the musical scene in Pakistan for the last 30 or more years must be aware of the name Mehnaz as one of the best singers ever produced by the country. Daughter of renowned classical singer Kajjan Begum, singing became an inevitable profession for Mehnaz after she got a chance to maximize her vocal capabilities with her classical training.
Mehnaz not only lent her vocals to television shows but sang for Lollywood movies as well. Starting her career in the early 1970s, she was introduced as a singer on a musical program that aired from Pakistan Television (PTV). Singing the popular classics on TV, it did not take long for the film producers to realize her talent and introduce her voice into films.
Her popular film songs include 'Main Jis Din Bhula Doon' (Khushboo), 'Lehroan Ki Tarah Tujh Ko Bikharne Nahin Dain Gey' (Bazar-e-Husn), 'Yeh Safar Teray Meray Pyar Ka' (Sheeshay Ka Ghar) and 'Waada Karo Saajna' (Aaena). She has also won 10 Nigar Awards for her contribution as a playback singer in films.
