Agha Rafique is counted among the senior drama writers of television. He started off his career as a playwright writing plays for Pakistan Television (PTV) and after the introduction of private channels, wrote a number of plays for the newly introduced channels as well. One of his most popular plays for PTV was 'Ek Thi Mehroo', which not only earned appreciation from the viewers but also won the PTV drama festival contest.
He also wrote the drama serial 'Fursat', which was another play that made it into the PTV drama festival. The play was based on the concept presented by the great film and TV actor Nadeem and was directed by Nadeem's son Farhan Nadeem.
For the private channels, Agha Rafique penned a number of popular drama serials such as 'Malika', which aired on Hum TV as well as 'Dohri, which aired on ARY Digital. 'Dohri' was especially appreciated for the courageous voice it raised against feudalism.
