There are many individuals who enter showbiz as actors but later on realize that their strength is in another area, which is mostly direction. Zahir Lehri was also one such actor. He started his career as a budding artist from Pakistan Television (PTV) Quetta Center where he was cast in the drama 'Platform' by popular Quetta center director Asif Ghauri. The drama is considered to be among the best produced by Quetta center and brought Zahir into the limelight.
In the years to come, however, Zahir got to realize that his primary interest in show business was not in front of the camera but behind it. And that is what saw him step into a director's shoes after the introduction of the private channels where he could easily express and create what he wanted without worrying about the censorship that was and has been a negative feature in PTV productions.
In 1999, he directed a play called 'Maa' for PTV comprising Shahood Alvi and Nida Mumtaz as the lead actors. The play discussed the issue of adoption and how a child can get torn between his real parents and the ones who adopt him. The drama received a good response from the audiences. Another drama directed by him is 'Chaal'.
Zahir also directed a music video for aspiring singers Rabbi and Raina. In recent times, his name was associated with the Geo TV sitcom 'Gharana Fasana'.
