There was a time in Pakistan when television actors would migrate to the silver screen in search of a bigger scope and better opportunity. However, with the downfall of cinema in the country, most film actors made their way to television knowing that television is a thriving medium in Pakistan.
Deeba Begum is also one of those actresses who started her career as a film actress and then made her way to television. Born in Ranchi district of Bihar, India on August 1, 1947, Deeba started her onscreen career as a child actor appearing in films such as 'Miss 56' (1956), 'Wah Rahe Zamane' (1958) and 'Faisla' (1959). Later on, she worked in many successful films like 'Chiragh Jalta Raha' (1962), 'Chingari' (1964) and the horror movie 'Zinda Laash' (1967).
Throughout her career, Deeba worked with the top brass of Lollywood actors and actresses including Waheed Murad, Shamim Ara, Sabiha Khanum, Santosh Kumar, Agha Talish and many others. In recent years, she has worked in 'Zill-e-Shah' (2008), which was directed by Shaan and 'Channa Suchi Muchi' (2010).
After starting career on television, Deeba appeared in supporting roles in a number of popular television dramas including 'Boota From Toba Tek Singh', 'Tum Yehi Kehna', 'Riyasat','Dil Lagi', 'Tareekiyan' and 'Moorat'. In all of these dramas, she got the chance to work with the leading actors of television as well as the best of directors and writers. Although television was a relatively newer medium for her, Deeba Begum proved her mettle as a versatile actress and achieved a lot of success. One of her most popular dramas was 'Teray Pehloo Main', which was aired on Geo Television and received critical as well as popular acclaim.
The recent years have seen her son Imran Ali Rizvi making his television debut with the drama 'Sehar Honay Tak'.
