Dancers in Pakistan have not been able to get true appreciation for their talent and work. There have been many famous dancers to have appeared on the media stage, but because of the limited scope of dancing in Pakistan, it has been very difficult for performers to take center stage. This is partly due to the fact that the movie industry has fallen in the pits, while dancing has no real part to play in drama serials. However, the plot is changing as more and more dancers are emerging, specially due to the emergence of dance talent shows that have begun to be telecast. One of the many different branches of dancing is Kathak, which is an art specially popular in the Punjab region of Pakistan. Kathak performers have a great way of entertaining audiences with their delicate dancing skills, and it is the only form of classical dance that has really become popular in Pakistan. One of the most popular Kathak performers in Pakistan is Nighat Chaudhry, who has a monopoly in classical dancing.
Raised in London, England, she received her dancing lessons from none other than the great Naheed Siddique. She also learned ballet and contemporary dancing in London, while she trained herself in the art of Kathak from the Kathak Kendra in Delhi. She runs her own NGO at present, which goes by the name of National Dance Foundations. Two dancing projects have also been set up under her name.
