Pakistan’s Cheif of Army Staff, General Qamar Bajwa, has been given Turkey’s Legion of Merit Award in Ankara.
The award was presented to General Qamar Bajwa in Ankara on his efforts to strengthen the ties between Pakistan and Turkey. The Turkish military highly appreciated the role and character of Pakistani military against the terrorism. General Qamar Bajwa also discussed with his Turkish acquaintance; General Hulusi Akar about the security conditions in the region and the imposed threats. Both generals also agreed to military co-operation which is believed to strengthen the military ties between both nations even more. General Qamar Bajwa dedicated his award to the brave martyrs of the Pakistani & Turkish military who laid down their lives for the sake of their homeland. Both military leaders also discussed the regional peace and stability and the role being played by both nations in maintaining it. He had visited the Ataturk Mausoleum where General Qamar Bajwa paid homage to the grave of the founding father of Turkey and also wrote a few sentences out of respect and honor in the visitor’s book.

General Qamar Bajwa was appointed the Chief of Army Staff in November 2016, he’s currently the 16th COAS of Pakistan. In his tenure so far, he has successfully launched the combing operation “Radd-ul-Fasaad” to wipe out hiding terrorists. Moreover, in his military career, he has been awarded 2 prestigious military awards including; “Nishan-e-Imtiaz” and “Hilal-i-Imtiaz”. According to the public, General Qamar is a dignified man with an open thinking. He believes that “religious extremism” is more of a threat to the nation than India. General Bajwa, however, has no tolerance in the matters of national security. His public image further describes him to be an unpolitical person with a strong connection to his troops and junior officers. He, however, has a keen interest in cricket and also offered “Umrah” tickets to the Pakistani cricket team on their glorious victory.
